Jerzy (George) ROZYCKI

Mr Jerzy (George) Rozycki is an independent candidate in the Hills Shire elections. He is standing both for Mayor and for councillor in the North Ward.
Mr Rozycki responded to our candidate questionnaire and we thank him for that. He responded Yes to the three multiple-choice questions but did not provide any further climate or other policy statements. And on his campaign Facebook page he includes this statement:
“3. review and adopt the best livable climate future for The Hills Shire.”
But is this the whole story?
Our candidate questionnaire responses are useful up to a point. But, in the case of Mr Rozycki, we fear it conceals a truth that is contrary to our purpose.
We cannot say whether or not Mr Rozycki responded to our questions sincerely - in the broad continuum of opinion there is considerable room for nuance. But here is our advice:
The candidate’s stated membership of United Australia Party and his public social media activity lead us to advise that, despite his responses to our questionnaire, climate-concerned voters should NOT vote for him.
You can read more about our reasons below. Our published questionnaire responses may have given the impression that Mr Rozycki was a reasonable choice for climate-concerned voters. We cannot allow that to stand. We have now updated the responses to indicate our concerns about Mr Rozycki. We have invited Mr Rozycki to respond.
Membership of United Australia Party
Mr Rozycki is standing (for Mayor and Councillor) as an Independent. But the candidate information sheet available at Elections NSW informs us that he is a member of the United Australia Party.
(There is nothing out of the ordinary about a candidate who is a member of a registered political party standing as an independent. It tells us only that he has either not sought or not been granted nomination by the party.)
But, independent or not, membership of the United Australia Party is deeply concerning. The United Australia Party is the party of Clive Palmer and Craig Kelly. They are no champions of climate action. Mr Palmer’s company Waratah Coal is lining up to follow Adani in opening up the massive Carmichael coal basin in North Queensland. Mr Palmer is presently proposing a new coal fired power station in Barcaldine shire in Queensland. There is much more that could be said about Mr Palmer (and Mr Kelly) and the United Australia Party but we feel that we do not need to labour this point.
Social Media Activity
Exploring Mr Rozycki’s social media presence throws more light on his political predilections. He has indeed shared United Australia Party content. He also shares and seems to admire the social media posts of LNP senator Matt Canavan.
Included amongst them is this one from a few weeks ago in which Senator Canavan rails against Australia’s proposed adoption of a net zero emissions target by 2050 and sings the praises of the opening the massive Carmichael coal basin by Adani:

There is also content connected with COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates and other matters that might concern many voters. Here is one example:
