Climate Matters: Hills Shire

  There are 68 days to go until The Hills Shire Council elections.  And we have a plan!  We intend to provide a range of posts on our Facebook page ranging from the boring (but necessary) through to moving and inspiring. “The best-laid plans of mice and men oft go astray” Naturally we will need to adapt and change as we go along - as circumstances and events require but also in response to your feedback.  But here are some of the things we hope to deliver: Posts that will be a little dry, possibly boring, but necessary We will offer a couple of series of posts in this category.   Here in the Hills Shire we can see all too clearly that the effects of climate change are upon us.  In the last two years we have been affected by storms, floods and an unprecedented and devastating months-long fire storm.  Remember the colour of the skies and the choking rasp of eucalyptus smoke?  Remember the oppressive ever-present threat? This year, 2021, is the first year of a decade in which we must drastically cut our emissions.  If we do not, our comfortable and amenable Hills Shire environment will be increasingly subject to the fury of a more and more hostile climate.  We know this because an overwhelming consensus of science, future thinkers and community leaders tells us so.  And we confirm this through our recent lived experience.  It is no longer a matter for debate!
