Know your council ward
On September 4, voters in the Hills will elect a new mayor and twelve councillors to oversee and guide the administration of our shire for the next three years.
The mayor will be elected by all voters in the Hills.
But for the purpose of electing the twelve councillors, the shire is divided into four council wards with approximately equal populations. Note that some suburbs span more than one ward, so you need to use your full address to determine which ward you live in.
West ward: parts or all of Baulkham Hills, Winston Hills, Bella Vista, Norwest and Kellyville.
East ward: encompasses parts or all of Baulkham Hills, North Rocks, West Pennant Hills and Castle Hill
Central ward: includes parts or all of Castle Hill, Glenhaven, Kellyville and North Kellyville
North ward: is geographically the largest ward spanning from parts or all of Beaumont Hills, Rouse Hill, Glenhaven, Dural, Kenthurst and Annangrove in the south to Lower Portland, Leets Vale and Wisemans Ferry in the north
Each ward elects three councillors who will be the representatives on council for that ward for their three year term. (Look out an up-coming post that will tell you more about the make-up of the current council.)
Here are two easy ways to find out which council ward you live in:
The NSW Electoral Commission allows you to check your enrollment. That’s a great thing to do anyway and it will also tell you which council ward you are enrolled in.
https://roll.elections.nsw.gov.au/NSWLookUp/The Hills Shire Council web-site has a Maps and Boundaries page that has an easy tool. Simply enter your street address and the page will tell you the ward that contains that address.
